Current Trends That are Here to Stay for 2021
There is no denying that London Fashion Week, LFW, was slightly different this year, but nevertheless, it gave us a brilliant insight as to what we can expect to see in stores not only in the upcoming seasons but also next year too. As the new year draws closer, designers are beginning to share their plans for 2021 in terms of fashion trends and many are curious as to what the next 12 months will bring us.
Towards the end of the year, many are dubious about investing in menswear clothing in fear that they won’t make use of these new pieces when the next year comes around. However, thankfully, some of the fashion trends we have seen this year will be here to stay and 2021 is predicted to be a year that continues to make the most of some of the biggest and arguably the best trends we have all embraced over the past year. Below we have highlighted some investment-worthy trends it is worthwhile knowing about.
Minimalism
It is likely that a simpler and cleaner aesthetic is going to be at the forefront of men’s fashion for the next year or so. Scandi style and minimalism remain popular for all aspects of design, from clothing through to homeware, and this trend complements sustainability. So, when purchasing new items, opt for classic timeless staples that are versatile enough to be worn regularly.
Tailoring
Blazers have been a huge trend this year across both men and women’s fashion and tailoring is something that we can expect to remain popular throughout 2021 too. There were a number of tailoring-focused shows at LFW and it is fair to say that both suit jackets and tailored overcoats will be staple pieces for any wardrobe for the foreseeable.
Leather
Many will agree that leather has been one of the longest standing trends in menswear fashion and it isn’t going anywhere as we head into 2021. From leather jacket and trench coats to leather trousers, if you’re wondering what to buy for winter this year, this is a safe fabric to opt for. There are some incredible leather investment pieces to choose from.
Corduroy
Contemporary corduroy has been around for three years or so now and again, this is a trend that we can expect to see in menswear clothing for the upcoming year too. Whilst corduroy designs may be slightly more subtle now than they used to be, when looking for pieces that you will get wear out of, opting for a jacket or coat is the best way to go.
Neutrals
Throughout this year we have seen a number of designers use neutral colour pallets for their collections and even through the winter months, it is likely that these earthy tones will be prominent. Whole outfits will continue to be based around this specific colour pallet, so when investing in new pieces towards the end of 2020, neutral colours are the way to go.
Cardigans
Knitwear is a seasonal staple, yet one piece in particular that is set to be popular again for winter 2020/21 is cardigans. Menswear clothing lines are likely to feature oversized cardigans both this year and next, and we may even find that heavy knitwear replaces jackets for many into spring next year. When purchasing new knitwear, a cardigan is definitely a good choice.
Investing in long-term trends
If you are wanting to purchase new items of menswear clothing in the latter half of the year if you stick to any of the trends mentioned above, you can trust that you will make the most of the new items in your wardrobe as we head into 2021 and beyond. You can confidently invest in classic, and also statement, pieces knowing that when the new year comes around they won’t be cast aside to make way for new trends.
