Part of a design collaboration between HAY and artist Laila Gohar that celebrates the joy of meeting family and friends over a good meal, the Sobremesa Market Basket is a spacious shopping basket designed for trips to the farmer's market or grocery store. Handmade in bast, with a bright red fastening detail, the multifunctional basket can also be used for other kinds of shopping, picnics or household storage.
Laila Gohar is a conceptual artist and chef who works with food as her artistic medium. She creates immersive experiences that blur the line between performance and dining. Gohar was born in Egypt, where she grew up in a large family of passionate cooks and hosts. She is now based in New York City where she works internationally, and is known for her high profile collaborations across art, design and fashion. Laila also writes a monthly column called How to Host It for FT’s How to Spend It magazine. For HAY, Laila Gohar has designed the Sobremesa Collection – a series of tableware and kitchen accessories designed to celebrate the joy of hosting.
