Cerro Azul is managed by a man who has worked for the Mierisch family for just shy of 50 years. Enrique Moraz started as an administrator at their farms Los Placeres and Limoncillo in Nicaragua, helping with accounts and payroll. It was not long before his work ethic and leadership skills were recognised and he was soon promoted to farm manager. The reputation and quality that those farms have today, has been in large part to the efforts of Enrique. So when the Mierisch family acquired Cerro Azul in 2011 and needed someone help them build the farm from the ground up, there was only one man for the job.
The terroir in Cerro Azul, particularly in this area of the farm, is geared towards growing great coffee. The high altitude, steady rainfall and rich soil creates an environment where the Gesha plant can thrive. The final cup is delicate and floral, perfectly capturing why the varietal is held in such high regard.
